An "Italian Wedding"? I think not, Kimye
Oh please.....Kim and Kanye did not have "an Italian wedding": no fights broke out during the reception, a slutty ex did not show up wearing white, and there was nary a candy-coated almond to be seen. Wannabes!

Some guy in Utah wants to bring back the Firing Squad....seriously
I just read a report that Paul Ray, a lawmaker in Utah, wants to bring back the Firing Squad as a more reliable method of implementing the Death Penalty. According to the news report, the last time the firing squad was used to execute a prisoner in Utah was...in 2010.
Because, nothing sends a message that "murder is wrong" like murdering someone?
Inmates on death row are there because they have committed horrible crimes, but I still do not believe that the death penalty is the answer to deterring violent criminals. Murderers, by definition, do not value human life enough to preserve it--why then do some believe that threatening them with death will somehow stop them from killing?
Murder is wrong...and so is the death penalty. I believe it diminishes us as a society to put criminals to death.

R.I.P. Ladies' Home Journal
Somehow I missed the recent announcement that Ladies' Home Journal is ceasing monthly publication, after 130 years in print. It wasn't until just now, when the super-thin June issue arrived in my mailbox, that I realized something was amiss. The issue is so small, it feels more like a booklet than a magazine.
The magazine will still be published occasionally, as a special interest publication, but it's truly the end of an era. Very sad to see another of the "Seven Sisters" die out.

May the Fourth Be With You!
Yesterday, as my daughter and I approached the automatic doors at Walgreen's, she silently, subtly parted her hands and used The Force to open them. As a longtime sci-fi fan, I could not have been prouder.
Today is her 14th birthday.
Cathy, you have been a constant source of joy and happiness to our entire family from day one. We love you so much. Happy Birthday to my magical, marvelous, May the 4th baby!

The Last Word on Justin Bieber
So proud of my daughter, Amy, for her creative work in tonight's Art Show at her high school. She had several mixed media pieces on display, but this one was my favorite:
